The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat. When injected into the fat, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, and once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

The most common side effects are swelling, bruising numbness, redness. These are all common side effects that resolve within 5-10 days.

Kybella is most commonly used for removal of fat underneath the chin. Can also be used for other areas of body contouring such as the armpit fat, bra bulges, back, arms, and lower buttock folds.

There is some swelling right after Kybella treatment which is typically most prominent in the first 2-3 Days, and is typically resolved in the first week. Over the following month, you may feel (but not see) a bump under the skin of the treated area. The firmness signifies Kybella is working to dissolve the fat. Once the fat is dissolved, your body will naturally absorb the fat cells.
